This blog is something very personal. It’s about my life and how I connected to the scenario of rap music and how revolutionary it made me through the voice of Sudin Pokhrel. I still remember my father had bought us a radio tap, where we used to play cassettes of Nepali artists and some foreigh bands. Those were days when we used to make bands in schools and listen to different flovors of music ranging from rock to death metal and I had a few collections of Nepali rappers including Girish and The Unity Band. I started listening to Mr. Sudin since the time when we didn’t even have TV, Computer and Internet.
Who is Sudin Pokharel?
Family Background
Sudhin was born on 23 February in Kathmandu who is commonly known as DA 69. He belongs to the generation that brought a revolution in hip hop and rap music scenario of Nepal. He is the son of a Professor of Political Science and her mother worked in Nepal Eye Hospital as ophthalmic assistant.
Education Background
He grew up as an average student and graduated SLC from St. Joseph’s School in Biratnagar. He pursued his education pathway in arts as a student of Journalism and later graduated from Tribhuvan University.
Music Background
Since 1998, he is enrolled in Nepali Music Industry. He, being very passionate about music he initially formed a band with Sugam Pokharel with band name SPO x Band which gave Sudin a first lesson of failure. Nepali music industry welcomed him with big failure from an early age. He came with a song with a title, “Udi jane yo panchi haina” which gave a hope for him to learn from failures. Sudin later separated with Sugam and later collaborated with Girish Khatiwoda. He came back with the band name Girish and The Unity. Their combined effort brought a huge success with the song, “Ma esto chhu ma testo chhu”. Then Girish decided to leave for abroad and later Sudin collaborated with Aidray and Asif and formed another band named The Unity which is known as one of the popular hip-hop bands in Nepal. The first song by the band titled Shez the bomb, featuring Sugam Pokhrel was a super hit and it opened the doors of the music industry for Sudin once again.

Unexpected turn
Having so much professional exposure and network in Nepali Media and Sports Industry; Sudin was frustrated with journalism and the whole political scenario as a journalist. Popular band of Nepal of Sudin was struggling to make money in the evolving industry of music. He took a very unexpected decision and flew to Australia in November, 2011 and he became a lost legend in Nepali music industry.
Back Again
After 7 and half years, Sudin came back with the song, "Josh" which made the audience like me excited! He kept himself busy as a responsible family person and learned a lot as a commoner in Australia. Recently he released his song, “Mrityu” which is a socially influencing song about mental health. He is working to bring “The Unity” band together again.
